Key products from the Pottinger cultivation and sowing equipment range will be in action with McCormick tractors at the Tillage Demo Day being staged by machinery sales and service dealer Mark Baker of M Baker Engineering, Ilminster, Somerset.
The event – which runs from 8am to 2.30pm on Tuesday, October 30 – will be held at Knott Oak near Ilminster (TA19 0JA) and will feature the new McCormick X8.660 VT-Drive and X7.690 P6-Drive tractors working with a selection of Pottinger equipment, including the Terrasem C6 trailed disc cultivator drill.
“It’s one thing looking at a tractor and implement at a show or in our yard but what farmers really want is to see these machines in action,” says Mark Baker. “That’s why we decided to hold this working demonstration; farmers and contractors will get a better impression of the performance and features of these products.”
Pottinger UK plans to have a Servo 35S plough, Terradisc and Synkro (stubble tine) cultivators, and a Lion power harrow-Aerosem seed drill combination on site in addition to the high output 6m Terrasem C6 drill.
This machine uses two rows of discs to create or finish off a seedbed, then packer wheels to firm the resulting tilth, and disc coulters for accurate seed placement, a combination that enables the machine to work across stubbles, pre-cultivated land and on ploughed ground.
This selection of implements will illustrate the breadth of the Pottinger range, catering for small and large farms alike with a choice of implements to suit different approaches to establishment as appropriate for different crops, soil types and conditions.
McCormick tractors on hand to operate the equipment include the X8.660 VT-Drive from an all-new range of three high-performance tractors.
Power outputs are up to 310hp in a size of tractor that makes it suitable for heavy work with trailed equipment such as spreaders and tankers, as well as field operations with tillage and grassland machinery.
With seamless speed control from the VT-Drive stepless transmission, high capacity lift linkage front and rear, and big tyres helping put the power down, the new X8 tractors cater for contractors and large farms alike.
The McCormick X7.690 P6-Drive with 206hp for draft work boosting to 225hp for pto and transport applications, is one of five six-cylinder X7 Series tractors featuring a new transmission with 30×15 speeds as standard on Efficient ‘mechanical’ spec models and a 54×27 creep version on Premium models.
Both come with six powershift steps – in contrast to the four-speed powershift fitted to the replaced Pro-Drive / PS-Drive models – and there are also VT-Drive versions at 166hp to 192hp with a CVT transmission.
All can be equipped with ISOBUS implement operation and advanced Topcon precision farming equipment, including auto steering up to high-definition RTK.
